UAB School of Nursing to Offer DOT Certificaiton Review Course
The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), is now offering an online DOT Medical Examiner Certification Review Course. This course was developed by Dr. Karen Heaton, a Certified Medical Examiner who is nationally recognized for her research and work with truck drivers.
Beginning May 2014, all medical certificates issued to interstate truck and bus drivers must come from Medical Examiners nationally certified to conduct DOT physical examinations. The National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners is a new Federal Motor Carrier Safety Association (FMCSA) program that requires Medical Examiners to complete a training course and successfully pass the Medical Examiners Certification Test.
UAB's 13 module online training prepares Medical Examiners (physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and doctors of chiropractic) to perform DOT driver examinations and conforms to the mandatory FMCSA curriculum. Those who successfully complete this certification review course will be eligible to sit for the Medical Examiner Certification Test.
This online training offers the convenience of 24/7 access and uses multiple formats of content delivery, including video streaming, post-tests at the completion of each module, a final overall post-test, and downloadable resource material. Participants have 90 days in which to complete the entire course.
The cost of UAB's online DOT Medical Examiner Certification Review Course is $495 and continuing education credits are offered to physicians, NPs and PAs.
